MATTHEW 16:13-18

(KJV)

13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do…

15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Jesus comes here and asks who people are saying He is?
Now look at their answer:

"Some say you are John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and some say Jeremiah".

Interesting, Jesus is pointing out, that, although He is here teaching them and has told them plainly and shown them plainly who He is, they still don't know.

O.K., so none of these people know who I really am, now who do you guys think I am?
Jesus asked them personally the same question.

Peter answers and says: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!"

Jesus says: "Good Job! - Simon - Good Job! Your senses didn't tell you that and neither did you listen to what other people were saying about me. No, because you chose to listen within your heart, to God Himself, My Father revealed that to you. And from now on I will call you, Peter (which means Rock)."

"This is the revelation I am building my Church on, this is the Rock of revelation. Not Peter, but rather what was revealed to Peter by the Spirit of God. It is who I am and what I have done for them, according to what My Father tells them by His Spirit!"

And for added emphasis, to make sure we get the point, He says:
"And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it!"

What are the gates of hell?

"He that sows to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption". The senses are the gates of hell. The five physical senses and being led by them will lead you to destruction and death. They are the openings, the windows, "gates", to the way the world lives in and through the flesh. They lead us to reason and sense knowledge as antagonistic to what is revealed to us by the Spirit of God. Listening to the flesh, the five physical sense, and following after these will keep you in darkness and lead you straight into hell.

The five physical senses are not able to reveal who Jesus is and what He has done for us. If they were, those people would never have crucified Him. Filling your head with a lot of knowledge "about" Jesus will not reveal Him to you and will not cause you to grow spiritually. He was standing right in front of those people and they didn't "see" Him, because they were listening to their five physical senses, their flesh and not the heart of God.

Only My Father who is in heaven can reveal that to you. Through the realm of the spirit, and the spirit alone will you be able to comprehend all that Jesus has done for you and all that you are IN HIM! IN The Promised
Land, flowing with Milk and Honey!

Jesus is building His Church on the simple knowledge of who He is. Period. Why? Anything else doesn't matter. It's immaterial. It's irrelevant. Anything that doesn't promote a set specific growth in the body of Christ is worthless. He wants us to learn Him and our identity in Him. That is where real growth can and does occur. Think about it! What better way is there to grow, than to learn who He is, now that you are "born-again"? What better way is there to grow than to learn who you are, now that you have been "saved"?

That's the Milk, we all need to drink! He must increase and we must decrease.
