GENESIS 11:1
(KJV)
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech…
(New American Standard)
Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words…
(The Living Bible)
At that time all mankind spoke a single language…
(Joseph B. Brother)
all the earth was of one manner of speech–and of one stock of words…
(The Jerusalem Bible)
Throughout the earth men spoke the same language, with the same vocabulary…
(Ronald Knox)
Hitherto, the world had only one way of speech, only one language…

As we can see here, they were all of "one speech" and all of "one language". To even think of that beggars description. All one speech! "One manner of speech and of one stock of words" They all spoke the same thing in the same way. All one language, they all understood each others words in the same way. They all were able to clearly communicate and understand each other. "All mankind spoke a single language".

There were no divisions caused by any misunderstandings? No confusion? No misinterpretations? Every word spoken to each other was so perfectly understood by all that everyone operated and worked in
harmony with each other? All with the same goal, the same purpose, with no argument or strife? Hard to imagine, isn't it?

You see if there is total pure understanding of each others words you can thoroughly and precisely communicate with a person in any language. There would be no room for error, and so no confusion, no disagreement or misunderstanding.

If I was going to tell you something and I wanted to be sure you comprehended or understood what I was saying in the same way I understand; I would first have to make sure that you understood the meanings or definitions of the words I was using to communicate. You would have to know the exact same
definitions of the words I'm using when I am communicating to you. In other words, it is not just that the speech is understood. Of greater import is the fact that each word being spoken is understood, in the same way, with the same definition.

I'm sure most of us have all played the game of telling a person something and then he/she tells another and so on down the line, until it comes back to you. When you get the message back, it's not like anything you even said, why?
