Function Of God Bookmark and Share

As with every thing God has ever done there is a function, a purpose, a specific meaning to His design and creation. One has only to look around for a minute to see the divine intelligence of God in the working of every living creature. It was orchestrated to perfection.

Once we understand there is a heavenly order to the things God has done, we begin to realize how much God cares for our growth and person. He has taken care of everything, thought it out before we could think for ourselves.

Before we continue let's look at a few definitions to give us a clear understanding of God's function, God's purpose and God's will.

FUNCTION —(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

  • 2 : the action for which a person or thing is specially fitted or used or for which a thing exists : PURPOSE

PURPOSE —(MSN Encarta)

  1. reason for existence: the reason for which something exists or for which it has been done or made the purpose of life
  2. desired effect: the goal or intended outcome of something The purpose of the law is to control pollution.
  3. determination: the desire or the resolve necessary to accomplish a goal You need to act with purpose.
transitive verb
  1. set something as goal: to intend or determine to do something

PURPOSE —(Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)

Greek: boulema NT:^1013^ —(Vines Dictionary of New Testament Words)

  1. "a purpose or will" (akin to boulomai, "to will, wish, purpose"), "a deliberate intention," occurs in Acts 27:43, "purpose"; Romans 9:19, "will"; 1 Peter 4:3, in the best mss. (some have thelema)

Greek: bouleuo NT:^1011^ —(Vines Dictionary of New Testament Words)

  1. "to take counsel, resolve," always in the middle voice in the NT, "to take counsel with oneself," to determine with oneself, is translated "I purpose" in 2 Corinthians 1:17 (twice).

This is the trust we should have in Him, He is God Almighty, He knows better than we do. Think about it. If there is a God, and there is, then wouldn't He see that everything would work out to His goal, His intention, before bringing it into creation? I mean come on; He is not like us, acting without even a thought. No, quite the contrary, He does everything with a purpose and on purpose. That is His will.

WILL —(Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary,)

  1. Wishing, desiring, or choosing especially in reference to the will of God. In the gospels, primarily in John, Jesus is said to be acting not according to His own will, but according to the will of the heavenly Father (John 5:30; 6:38). Indeed, doing the will of the Father is Jesus' nourishment (John 4:34), and Jesus does nothing apart from the Father's will (John 5:19). Luke confirms this when he quotes Jesus' statement in the Garden of Gethsemane: "Father, if it is Your will, remove this cup from Me, nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done" (Luke 22:42).
THAT ALL THINGS WOULD BE DONE
TO THE PRAISE OF THE GLORY OF HIS GRACE

What God accomplishes in individuals is just a small scale model of what He has plans for doing collectively, in the Church, as a whole. You see, there are no limits in Him.

God does have a goal

and plan in mind; He has had one since before the creation of the world.

My desire is that all men would come to a knowledge of the real TRUTH, as we can with the assistance of the "Spirit of Truth". I pray that this writing will prove to be the definitive part that has eluded us in our search for the answer to those fundamentally necessary foundational questions.
